The Rocky Mountain Power Foundation has awarded Uintah Basin Technical College (UBTech), located in northeastern Utah, a grant in the amount of $5,000, creating more scholarship opportunities for UBTech students. Rocky Mountain Power Foundation’s contribution will create additional opportunities for students to learn in an incredibly career-focused environment with hands-on learning, courses taught by industry professionals, and built-in internships.

Specifically, “This grant will increase educational support for students in rural Utah. The project is designed to increase the number of students in rural Utah completing a certificate program. UBTech believes technical education should be accessible for all individuals, regardless of economic status,” said UBTech Chief Development Officer, Heather Lowry.

“We are pleased to support the Uintah Basin Technical College with this donation from our Foundation,” said Merlin Rushton, Rocky Mountain Power Regional Business Manager. “The Rocky Mountain Power Foundation is committed to strengthening the vitality of our communities through such grants.”

About Uintah Basin Technical College:

Uintah Basin Technical College (UBTech) serves students in the region of northeastern Utah known as the Uintah Basin—encompassing Daggett, Duchesne, and Uintah Counties and serves the Ute Indian Tribe of the Uintah and Ouray Reservation. UBTech has been offering technical education to the Uintah Basin community since 1968, ensuring students have access to the training needed to immediately enter the workforce.

While the cost of attending courses at the College is far more affordable than traditional universities, they still present a barrier for many of the students interested in attending. UBTech’s scholarship fund is vital in meeting the needs of students who do not have the financial support to continue their education. With support from the Rocky Mountain Power Foundation, UBTech will provide local students with the training they need to have meaningful careers in their hometown.
