Rocky Mountain Power Foundation Awards $5,000 Grant to Support UBTech Student Scholarships in Rural Utah

Uintah Basin Technical College (UBTech), located in northeastern Utah, has been awarded a $5,000 grant from the Rocky Mountain Power Foundation, expanding scholarship opportunities for UBTech students.

The last grant UBTech received from the Foundation was in 2022, which had a significant impact, benefiting 16 students. This new funding aims to continue supporting students, particularly in rural Utah, by increasing the number of students completing certificate programs.

“This grant will enhance educational support for students in rural areas,” stated UBTech President Aaron Weight. “UBTech plays a crucial role as the workforce arm of higher education.”

Merlin Rushton, Rocky Mountain Power’s Regional Business Manager, added, “We’re proud to partner with UBTech. Their students are the future of our country, and we’re happy to contribute through scholarship support.”

About Uintah Basin Technical College:

Uintah Basin Technical College (UBTech) serves students in the region of northeastern Utah known as the Uintah Basin—encompassing Daggett, Duchesne, and Uintah Counties and serves the Ute Indian Tribe of the Uintah and Ouray Reservation. UBTech has been offering technical education to the Uintah Basin community since 1968, ensuring students have access to the training needed to immediately enter the workforce.

While the cost of attending courses at the College is far more affordable than traditional universities, they still present a barrier for many of the students interested in attending. UBTech’s scholarship fund is vital in meeting the needs of students who do not have the financial support to continue their education. With support from the Rocky Mountain Power Foundation, UBTech will provide local students with the training they need to have meaningful careers in their hometown.
