UBTech Partners with George T. Weldon Construction, LLC to Invest in Local Workforce

Uintah Basin Technical College (UBTech) and George T. Weldon Construction, LLC are excited to announce a new partnership that will make a significant impact on the local community. As part of this collaboration and celebration of their 50th Anniversary in business, George T. Weldon Construction, LLC has established the “George T. and Judy Weldon – Invest in the Best of the Basin” Scholarship, a $10,000 fund designed to support Uintah Basin residents pursuing careers in construction, welding, CDL, or cabinetry programs at UBTech.
The scholarship, spread over five years, will provide full tuition and fees for one student annually, opening doors to high-demand careers and strengthening the local workforce.
Mike. T. Weldon, CEO at George T. Weldon Construction, expressed the company’s deep commitment to the Uintah Basin community. “We want to break the stigma that there’s ‘nothing here’ for young people. The Uintah Basin is a great place to live and work, and we want the youth and our community to feel proud of where they’re from,” Weldon shared.
2025 marks the 50th Anniversary from when Judy and George Weldon started their company in Vernal, Utah , building their legacy project by project. Now in its second generation of family leadership, the company continues to prioritize community growth and pride. Gary Merrill, Business Development Manager for George T. Weldon Construction, LLC said, “It’s not just about the structures we build its about the generational legacy and benefit they provide our community. “For projects like Warrior’s Warehouse or a Water Line Infrastructure, we remind our team that it’s not ‘just a metal building or a pipeline.’ We’re creating something meaningful for the people who will use it every day. That’s what makes a career fulfilling.”
UBTech President Aaron Weight praised the partnership, highlighting its alignment with the college’s mission to provide accessible and transformative education. “This collaboration with George T. Weldon Construction is a perfect example of how businesses and education can come together to invest in the future of our community,” said Weight. “The Weldon family’s legacy of giving back and supporting local talent is truly inspiring.”
As George T. Weldon Construction, LLC celebrates 50 years of success in 2025, their message is clear: investing in the community and its emerging workforce is key to building a stronger Uintah Basin. Through initiatives like the “George T. and Judy Weldon – Invest in the Best of the Basin” scholarship, they aim to empower students to achieve their goals and take pride in their careers without the economic barriers that would prevent them from pursuing their education and opening new doors for themselves, their family and their future.
