Stewart’s Marketplace Donates to UBTech’s Titan Support Center, Supporting Student Success
When the Titan Support Center reached out to area businesses in need of help with stocking their shelves with food and hygiene to help students who may have to go without these necessities, Stewart’s Marketplace in Roosevelt was the first to respond.
The Titan Support Center at Uintah Basin Technical College (UBTech) is a crucial resource for students on many levels. Not only does it provide a safe space, but the center also helps students with everything from academic tutoring and mental health support to accessing local resources for transportation and additional financial aid.
A recent UBTech survey revealed that many students face basic needs challenges, such as food insecurity and a lack of hygiene supplies.
To address these needs, Jenalee Moynier, UBTech Director of Student Services, turned to the community for help. Mark Stewart, owner of Stewart’s Marketplace, was among the first to respond with a donation to stock the Titan Support Center’s pantry with essential food and hygiene items.
“It says so much about Mark,” Moynier said. “His donation came even before we had furniture in the Roosevelt Titan Support Center. We had students struggling, and Stewart’s Marketplace was the very first donor to help us get started.”
Stewart expressed his belief in UBTech’s mission, recognizing the lasting impact the college has on the community. “We believe in UBTech and what you do. It has a real impact.”
He also emphasized the importance of giving back to the community, noting that it’s part of the family business’s philosophy. Stewart’s Marketplace has a rich history spanning over 65 years, originally established by Mark’s parents, Percy and Erma Stewart, as Cash Meat Market. Now a third-generation family-run business with over 150 employees, Stewart’s has evolved while maintaining its commitment to the Uintah Basin community.
“Making a difference is how we feel appreciated,” said Stewart. “Giving back to the community is very rewarding. We’ve been extremely blessed, and we owe so much to the people of the Uintah Basin. They make it possible for us to give back.”
The first support from Stewart’s Marketplace came in the form of a gift card, which allowed UBTech to purchase what was immediately needed for students. Stewart’s has continued to support UBTech, regularly donating not only food but also other essential supplies like hygiene products and other supplies.
“We help students in need, and meeting these needs sustains them through their educational journey,” added Moynier. “Thanks to Stewart’s, we’ve been able to make a significant difference in students’ lives.”
UBTech President Aaron Weight underscored the significance of partnerships like this, saying, “Last year, we celebrated 789 certificate graduates, all ready to enter the workforce.”
Stewart added, “That’s a real return on investment—why wouldn’t someone want to support that? Together, we bring hope. Together, we can change generations and help people.”
