Honoring Those Who Inspire: Nominations Open for The UBTech Way Award
At Uintah Basin Technical College, the spirit of community and connection runs deep. Since its introduction in January 2020, The UBTech Way has served as a guiding philosophy for how employees and students represent the College.
Its symbol, three interlocking cogs, reflects the institution’s commitment to being Student Centered, Campus and Community Connected, and Service Oriented in everything it does.
In 2022, UBTech launched The UBTech Way Award to honor individuals who embody these values. Each December, the College invites the public to nominate individuals who exemplify putting students first, strengthening community ties, and leading through service. These honorees are celebrated during the President’s Annual Champions Gala every January, a tradition that shines a spotlight on those who make a lasting impact.
Since its inception, The UBTech Way Award has honored individuals whose actions reflect the College’s core values. The first recipients in 2022 were Mindy Merrell, Marilyn Cuch, and Chad Mortensen. In 2023, the spotlight turned to Dan and Polly Karren and Dee Cairoli, followed by Joe Moynier and Rachelle Durant in 2024. Last year, Joann Cowan, December Hatch, and Jason Hoffman were celebrated for their outstanding contributions.
As 2026 approaches, UBTech is once again inviting the community to help identify those who lead by example. Nominations are now open and will be accepted through December 19.
Jenalee Moynier, UBTech’s Director of Student Success and Access, has led the charge in organizing this recognition.
“The UBTech Way Award is about shining a light on those who quietly have a big impact on people around them. People who advocate for students, connect positively with others, and serve selflessly in the community,” Moynier said.
UBTech President Aaron Weight echoed that sentiment, adding, “This award reflects the very best of UBTech and the Uintah Basin. It’s a celebration of individuals who embody our values and help create opportunities for others to succeed. When we honor these leaders, we honor the spirit of UBTech.”
UBTech encourages everyone to take part in this effort to celebrate those who inspire others through their everyday actions. Nominations should highlight how the nominee demonstrates a strong commitment to The UBTech Way and consistently embodies the principles of being Student Centered, Campus and Community Connected, and Service Oriented.
Details on how to submit nominations can be found on UBTech’s website, going to “Campus Info” and clicking on “Titan Support Center”, or by visiting UBTech’s social media channels.
