Business at UBTech consists of three certificate programs: Office and Financial Technician, Administrative Assistant, and Business Manager.
Office and Financial Technician is designed to train students in basic office skills to work in an entry-level office setting. Students review English and math skills that are desirable in business. Students build keyboarding and 10-key skills, draft professional emails using appropriate formatting, and gain confidence in their phone skills including answering the phone, taking messages, and leaving appropriate voicemail messages. Students receive basic computer training using industry-standard software. Students develop professional habits by chairing program meetings, giving virtual presentations, creating resumes for different jobs, and attending multiple job interviews. Employment opportunities include data entry specialists, customer service representatives, general office clerks, information clerks, receptionists, tellers, dispatchers.
Administrative Assistant is designed to take students to a more advanced office environment career. While continuing to attend meetings, students will increase their knowledge of office software and data organization. Students will add accounting skills for both a service and merchandise business and learn the power of QuickBooks accounting software. To improve their communication skills, students will prepare an informal proposal, design an infographic, and deliver multiple presentations. Graduates of the program will be prepared to seek employment as administrative assistants, bookkeepers, customer service representatives, general office clerks, information clerks, material recording clerks, receptionists, secretaries, tellers, bill and account collectors, bookkeepers, accounting clerks, auditing clerks, and dispatchers.
Business Manager is designed to help students reach management potential in the office. Students will become responsible for setting up and running the meetings. Students will build stronger communication skills for networking and effectively resolving customer concerns. Time management, scheduling, budgeting, and itineraries are all included in refining organizational skills. Students will begin to hone their leadership skills. The elective allows students to have various experiences with either work-based learning, specialized training, or competing on a real-world scale. Graduates of the program will be prepared to seek employment as office managers in a variety of settings.
