WEM Partners with UBTech to Build Tomorrow’s Workforce Through Scholarships
Uintah Basin Technical College (UBTech) is proud to announce a new partnership with Wasatch Energy Management/WEM Operating (WEM), a locally based oil and gas company with roots in the Uintah Basin. This collaboration reflects a shared commitment to community investment and workforce development and will provide scholarships to students enrolled in any UBTech program.
WEM has been a part of Utah’s energy landscape for over 23 years and actively participating in wells in the Uintah Basin since 2018. In 2023, the company began operating wells in the basin, and since then has drilled and completed 21 horizontal wells. With a workforce of approximately 50 employees, WEM continues to grow its infrastructure and capabilities, with a long-term vision of remaining a vital contributor to the region’s economy.
“Supporting the trades is essential,” said Kimball Hodges, President of WEM. “We need a highly trained workforce, and we want to support the rising generation. This scholarship is one way we can give back and help build a strong future for the Basin.”
Jake Woodland, WEM’s Vice President of Surface Logistics, emphasized the lasting impact of the initiative: “A scholarship donation is one that will have a lasting effect—helping lives for generations to come. It’s an investment with real value.”
UBTech President Aaron Weight echoed the importance of the partnership: “This collaboration with WEM is a powerful example of what happens when industry and education come together to serve the community. These scholarships will open doors for students and help meet the workforce needs of our region.”
The scholarship fund is open to students pursuing any of UBTech’s diverse programs, ensuring broad access to opportunity and advancement for Uintah Basin residents.
