UBTech & Williams Partner on Scholarships
Uintah Basin Technical College is excited to announce Williams, a gas pipeline company, has partnered with the college donating $3,000 annually to help provide scholarships for residents of the Uintah Basin.
Ed Vining, senior operations manager in the Uintah District for Williams Northwest Pipeline said, “Partnerships like this, are what helps Williams be part of the community. It also becomes an opportunity for us to hire graduates.”
This new scholarship will assist students interested in diesel and electrical programs at UBTech. Half of the scholarship donations will be designated for local high school graduates from Uintah, Duchesne, and Daggett counties. The other half of the scholarship will be available for adult residents of the Uintah Basin.
“We are very appreciative of Williams,” said UBTech President Aaron Weight. “This will benefit our students and the Williams company. Partnerships create stronger workforce connections with higher education and local industries.”
Williams handles approximately one-third of the natural gas in the United States. Williams has the Northwest Pipeline and the MountainWest Pipeline that run through the Uintah Basin, transmitting natural gas from local producers to supply companies for distribution.
Williams was founded by two brothers, Miller and David Williams, as a construction business in Arkansas in 1908. After a few years, they began building cross-country pipelines and entered the international market in 1923. Today, Williams has over 5,000 employees and 15,000 miles of transmission pipelines.
